Female band in Mizoram

Aizwal: Vohbik is Mizoram's first female band. It believes rhythm and melody can bring people together. It has the power to soothe and bring serenity. "The kind of music that we like to hear has such a deep impact psychologically, that mentally even you know the whole characterization of a person. I guess it is very important as music is the glorification of God. And that's what we can do and have been doing," says band member Vohbik Remi. Remi, Rasky, Mapuii and Vari have known each other since they were in school. All of them had been active in Sunday schools and had participated in choirs in various churches. So, when they decided to form VOHBIK, the experience came in handy. Soon they came out with their first album, Hosana, which was well received all over the state. The next cassette to be released was the Christmas album Immanuel which did brisk business and increased their fan following considerably. Prompted by the success of these two albums, plans are now being finalised to bring out a third album. " We have different programs in different churches. Now we are preparing a cassette. It's a Bible Society project collection. If possible we can come up with one cassette next year...we hope," Remi adds. They all have jobs, but are very devoted to their music practice. Sessions usually carry on till the wee hours of the morning.
