Raymonds Show: Designs No More Exclusive

MUMBAI: Known for their high quality worsted wool fabrics, Raymonds hosted a mega-fashion show giving expression to the creativity of seven top designers who displayed their winter collections amidst trend-setters from the glitterati of the city's film fraternity.

It sizzled fashion on a pleasant evening when Raymonds, the textile, fashion and readymade garments company, showcased the best of Indian designs at the Raymond Show 2003 over the weekend. Seven leading Indian designers - Rohit Bal, Raghavendra Rathore, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ashish Soni, Priyadarshini Rao, Anshu Arora Sen and Manish Arora - apart from the designers of the in-house 'Be' label, displayed their latest collections primarily using exquisite Raymond fabrics.

Flaunting these eye-catching designs with style and grace were international models from South Africa, Bangkok and Italy.

The show is an annual event that provides a platform to the designer fraternity to forecast trends, colours and designs for the coming year. The theme for this year's fashion extravaganza was 'weaving magic since 1925', which was manifested through the clothes, music and ambience and each talented designer depicted it in his/ her own creative manner.

The designs of leading creators like Raghavendra Rathore, Priyadarshni Rao and Ashish Soni are now being made accessable to the masses. This brings into focus the question of losing on exclusivity of designer wear. According to Soni, who has been designing for the up-market customers, this is the future of designers. He said exclusivity can still be maintained as the designers cater to exclusive clothes on demand.

The show saw a number of faces belonging to the creme-de-la- creme of Mumbai society. Spotted at the extravaganza were leading industrialists, film personalities and socialites like Raveena Tandon, Jackie Shroff, Arjun Rampal, Farah Khan and Manish Malhotra, among others.
