Palampur is a favourite camp for trekkers who can cross the Dhauladhar ranges through the Waru Pass and enter the Upper Ravi valley.
Neughal Khud, a 305 metres wide chasm, is an attraction for the visitors. The Bundla stream gushes through the Khud, and turns a thundering torrent.
Andretta (13 km) is a village where lived Norah Richards, a pioneer of rural theatre. At a small open-air theatre plays are still performed every summer as tribute to Norah's contributions. Sardar Shobha Singh is another renowned artist who lived here. He gained acclaim for his paintings Sohni and Mahiwal, Omar Khayyam and Heer Ranjha. His studio attracts tourists. His house has been converted into an art gallery.
Al-Hilal, 11 km away from Palampur town, was the summer retreat of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who conquered Kangra. Al-Hilal means 'Land of the Crescent Moon.' It is also known as Taragarh palace.
