SRISAILAM

It is 232 km south of Hyderabad, on the banks of river Krishna. The river has a dam here also. Nearby on a hill is situated the famous Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy temple. The temple has one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country. The legend has it that the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, Vrishabha, performed penance here and that the God appeared before him with his consort, Parvathi, in the forms of Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba. Nearby is Srisailam's highest peak of Sikharam (2835 ft). The Sikhareswara temple here is dedicated to Lord Shiva. After worshipping the Veera Sankara Linga if one views from here the Mallikarjuna temple, it is said, one will be emancipated from the bondage of the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, and will get liberated from all sins of the presesnt life. The Sanskrit sloga says: Srisaila Sikharam drushtva punarjanma navidyate. Another temple around is Sakthi Ganapathi temple. Hatakeswaram is yet another historical spot where a temple is dedicated to Adi Sankara. The philosopher-saint performed penance here and wrote Sivananda Lahari. Pala Dhara and Pancha Dhara are two legendary springs near the temple. Srisailam also offers a sprawling wildlife sanctuary.
A ride in Pathalaganga: Krishna at this spot is very deep
