BHUBANESWAR, JuLy 1: In a shocking incident that has triggered widespread condemnation
as also a debate, Additional Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation
(BMC), Ratnakar Sahoo, was dragged out of his office and brutally assaulted
during a public grievance hearing on Monday. See a social media video
According to eyewitnesses and video footage, a group of six to seven men, including
a BMC corporator, stormed into Sahoo’s chamber around 11:30 am and began physically
attacking him. The assailants allegedly accused the officer of misbehaving with
a BJP leader, Jagannath Pradhan, and demanded an apology. When Sahoo denied
any wrongdoing, the attackers reportedly grabbed him by the collar, kicked him
in the face, and attempted to force him into a vehicle. That is one version.
The incident, captured on camera, shows the officer being slapped, pushed to
the ground, kicked and dragged. The attackers also allegedly tampered with his
phone and uploaded objectionable content.
The assault has sparked a political firestorm. Former Odisha Chief Minister
Naveen Patnaik called the attack “appalling” and questioned the State’s law
and order situation: “If a senior officer is not safe in his own office, then
what can ordinary citizens expect?”.
The Odisha Administrative Service Association announced a mass leave protest
starting July 1, demanding swift action against the perpetrators. Police have
arrested three individuals, including corporator Jeevan Raut, and are investigating
further.
The Bhubaneswar civic body has come to a standstill, with employees staging
road blockades and demanding enhanced security for Government officials.

PROGNOSIS: It looks a Real New Trump is emerging - courageous, balanced, powerful and disinterested.
