WASHINGTON, Oct 12: The US House of Representatives is in a suspended animation without a full Speaker after Kevin McCarthy (R- Calif.) was ousted last week just the way he came.

Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana, currently undergoing treatment for blood cancer, was on Wednesday nominated for the Speaker's post in a secret ballot by the Republicans, the majority party in the House of Representatives. But there is uncertainty about his election - probably on Thursday - by the House as the fragmented party has just a slender majority and many are likely to vote differently, like voting back McCarthy. To become the Speaker one needs 217 votes in the House. Republicans have a narrow 221-212 majority in the House.

The House met on Wednesday and adjourned soon to meet again on Thursday but no vote is slated as the Republicans are not yet ready.

Some like Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), one of the eight renegade Republicans who voted to oust Kevin McCarthy last week, says she is not for Scalise.

The tally at the party ballot was 113 for Scalise and 99 for Jim Jordan, eight Reps voted for others.

• Experts blame violation of the Visual Flying Rules (VFR) for most of the chopper crashes in the mountains as the leading cause.
