At least 27 killed, 63 injured in Bangkok pub fire after blackout, explosion

The tragedy at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in the Chatuchak district stands as one of the deadliest nightlife disasters in Thailand in recent years.
BANGKOK, Jul 13 (INS): A catastrophic fire tore through a popular nightclub
in northern Bangkok in the wee hours of Monday (local time), killing at least
27 people and injuring 63 others, 22 of them critically.
The tragedy at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub (also referred to locally as the Na Ladprao eatery/bar) in the Chatuchak district stands
as one of the deadliest nightlife disasters in Thailand in recent years.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the venue just around midnight after
receiving reports of a fast-moving fire. Witnesses described scenes of terror
as thick, suffocating smoke rapidly filled the building, followed by a violent
explosion that shot flames through the front entrance.

Panic ensued as dozens of patrons and staff members scrambled to escape the
dark, enclosed space.
Firefighters from multiple districts rushed to reinforce the initial response,
taking roughly 30 minutes to bring the inferno under control.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt
arrived at the scene in the early hours of Monday to coordinate emergency efforts.
The Prime Minister stated that preliminary accounts from survivors, including
a performing musician, pointed to a potential electrical failure. Smoke reportedly
began pouring out of a circuit breaker near the stage, causing a sudden power
outage just before the main explosion.
With the electricity cut and visibility dropping to zero, and unable to locate
the main exits, a large number of victims fled toward the rear of the venue.
Officials confirmed that a tragic majority of the 27 deceased—comprising 18
women and nine men—were discovered trapped inside the restrooms at the back
of the pub.
Governor Chadchart said that of the 63 injured individuals rushed to local
hospitals, 22 remain in critical condition with severe burns and smoke inhalation.
He noted that while the venue held proper permits, investigators found emergency exits were heavily obstructed by tables and stacked beer crates, trapping panicking patrons inside and restricting the crowd's ability to flee.
Forensic teams and national police have cordoned off the charred remnants of
the pub to launch a formal investigation into the structural safety lapses and
electrical failures that triggered the disaster.
This incident has once again turned the spotlight on nightlife safety enforcement
in Thailand, echoing past tragedies such as the 2022 Chonburi nightclub fire
and the infamous 2009 Santika club disaster.
The incident has triggered a debate on social media whether the officer refused to take orders from a party leader or he was accused of any corruption, some netizens justifying the handling in either case, that Ratnakar was blocking public welfare work! It is true the Govt machinery has been the enemy Number One of the people of this country, existing for itself and for these politicians, for well over seven decades. India will never make an inch of progress - real progress, not make-believe-progress - unless and until this machinery is eliminated.

The flight path was not curvy. And the aircraft maintained a steady, gliding descent with its nose straight and the wings perfectly level. Many of the victims were charred beyond recognition, making identification difficult. Three hundred nineteen body parts have been sent for DNA matching with relatives to determine the identities.

In India the scene is just the opposite. Centralisation is the core agenda and identity of the ruling dispensation without which it has no existence, or in other words, it exists for that set of schemes only. A realisation of this never dawned upon any Opposition party in 2014 or any time thereafter, what to talk of being able to see it coming 70 years ago! The terminations are part of a large-scale exercise going on all across Fed departments and organisations to reduce wasteful Government expenditure as decided by a Trump in a mess gone berserk, and improve administrative efficiency following the whims of billionaire and his associate Elon MusK and his DOGE. It has not been shared how terminations are going to raise the efficiency bar! It looks like Trump has stolen some of the prescriptions meant for India. But the American problems are quite different.
