NEW DELHI, June 20: Tesla’s long-awaited India launch is finally becoming a
reality. A showroom is opening in Mumbai next month. The company is already shipping
its vehicles from its Shanghai factory in China to the Indian markets.
The first batch of Model Y Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) has already been shipped
from China, according to reports. Spare parts are coming from the United States,
China and the Netherlands.
RWD is a single motor powering the rear wheels, resulting in a slightly slower
pickup or the 0-60 mph than the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version. The 0-60 mph
is a metric to gauge a vehicle's speed. It is simply the acceleration. Engine
power, weight and tire grip are contributing factors for a lower metric. It
has 357 miles of range on a full charge, compared to 327 of AWD. Top speed is
125 mph (201 kmph) and 5.4 sec pickup (4.6 AWD). It will give longer trips and
cost savings. A premium feel of passenger comfort is an added attraction.
The launch of Model Y, a new and more affordable entry point variant, is to
meet the growing demand for electric vehicles. The best-seller will be there
in the US and Europe also next month. The model is an example of how Tesla is
able to change according to market demand quickly.
It is said Musk and Modi’s meeting in the US in February may have expedited
matters.

PROGNOSIS: It looks a Real New Trump is emerging - courageous, balanced, powerful and disinterested. Determined to save his country from the cliff, he has done quite a few draconian things that will reduce the burden of debts of the Federal entity, like the golden handshake, stopping senseless funding, pulling out of a worthless WHO. Shutting the Education Department is another. On the other hand, running it is also not the Centre's job either (We will convincingly elaborate it in the next chapter).
In India the scene is just the opposite. Centralisation is the core agenda and identity of the ruling dispensation without which it has no existence, or in other words, it exists for that set of schemes only. A realisation of this never dawned upon any Opposition party in 2014 or any time thereafter, what to talk of being able to see it coming 70 years ago!
