NEW DELHI, May 31: The total number of coronavirus infections has shot up in
the last few days, reaching 1,82,143 by Saturday evening. However, the number
of those cured and discharged has also been increasing proportionately, that
figure being 86,660. There were 8,026 new cases and 270 deaths in the last 24
hours. And the toll is 5,164.
Maharashtra has recorded a total of 65,168 cases and 2,197 deaths so far, about
one-third of the total of all other 30 States put together, Gujarat, the next
worst, 16,343 cases and 1007 deaths, Delhi 18,549 cases and 416 deaths, Uttar
Pradesh 7,445 cases and 201 deaths, Rajasthan 8,617 cases and 193 deaths, Tamil
Nadu 21,184 cases and 160 deaths.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a new set of covid management directives
also for the whole country. Everyone must wear a face mask in public and work
places, maintain social distancing, seating at work places should be spaced
out, working hours and lunch time should be staggered, work shifts should be
spaced out, work places should be sanitised after every shift, shops should
not cater for more than five customers at a time, marriages should not have
more than 50 guests and funerals 20, no spitting in public places, public gatherings
not allowed, paan, gutka, tobacco consumption in public places strictly prohibited.
