Space travel goes private: SpaceX sends two Americans to space station

SpaceX, the space ship built by Elon Musk's private company, has become the first private enterprise sending people into the space. The two NASA astronauts got into the ISS on Sunday morning (US time)

CAPE CANAVERAL (Florida), May 31: After a 19-hour journey into the space, the two NASA astronauts aboard SoaceX docked with the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday morning. Their SpaceX space ship was blasted off from NASA'a Kennedy Space Centre here in Florida on Saturday.

SpaceX is the space ship built by Elon Musk's private company, SpaceX. It is the first private enterprise sending people into the space, marking the beginning of commercialisation of space travel.

Carrying NASA astronauts Bob Behnken (49) and Doug Hurley (53), the ship was fired up at 3:22 pm on Saturday by the company's Falcon 9 rocket. The spacecraft was scheduled to dock with the ISS at 10:29 am on Sunday.

US President Donald Trump said, "I'm so proud of the people, of NASA, public and private. When you see a sight like that, it's incredible. When you hear that sound — the roar — you can imagine how dangerous it is."

Musk said, "This is a dream come true for me and everyone at SpaceX.”

Applauding the achievement, Joe Biden, former US Vice- President and candidate for Democratic Party's presidential nomination, claimed that the effort was the brainchild of Obama Government. "We planted the seeds of today's success," he said. It "saved taxpayers up to USD 30 billion and invigorated an aerospace industry in Florida that accounts for more than 130,000 jobs in the state," he added.
