NEW DELHI, June 2: The Government has claimed that India's preventive measures
were very fruitful and the recovery rate was high at 48.19%. The total number
of cases till date stood at 1,98,706 while the recoveries were 95,527 although
the daily rise in the cases for the last 24 hours jumped to 8,380.
The total deaths were 5,598 of which 73% were due to comorbities. For every
two deaths one was of a senior citizen; senior citizens account for 10% of India's
population.
In Capital Delhi, 13 more staff at the Lieutanant Governor's office tested
positive for coronvirus on Tuesday. Last week one other employee had reported
positive, apart from a few at the NDMC.
While Andhra Pradesh has sealed its borders, banning entry of passengers and
vehicles, the worst-hit Maharashtra opens all shops and markets from June 5
and has lifted inter-State travel ban. Karnataka too has lifted the inter-State
travel ban following the Centre's guidelines to unlock the lockdown in three
phases starting June 8.
Smarting under the impact of lockdown necessitated by coronavirus epidemic,
most of the businesses had shuttered the shops and laid off employees in large
numbers unable to bear the burden of mounting losses. Latest to join this lot
is Air Asia which has cut the pilots' salary by 40%.
However, the silver lining is that the factories are getting back to normal
as fast as they can. Large automobile companies like BMW have resumed production.
