Delhi will have 5.5 lakh coronavirus cases by July end: Dy CM Sisodia

The Delhi Government had announced on Sunday that the hospitals in Delhi are for Delhi residents. The L-G overruled this decision on Monday and has since refused to reconsider his order.

NEW DELHI, June 9: Delhi may touch a figure of 5.5 lakh cases of coronavirus by the end of July, according to Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, who attended the meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) chaired by Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal in place of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was taken ill. The requirements for beds will be 80,000 by then, he said.

Sisodia said the Central Government officials attending the meeting concluded that there is no community transmission of coronavirus as yet.

According to Satyender Jain, Health Minister, AIIMS Director Rendeep Guleria had said that the stage of the epidemic now is community transmission in Delhi. Community transmission is when one doesn't know the source of infection, he clarified, and said that in fact half of Delhi's cases are from unknown sources.

Sisodia said the L-G refused to reconsider his order overruling the Delhi Government's decision to reserve the meagre medical facilities available in Delhi for the residents of Delhi. Kejriwal had on Sunday announced that the hospitals in Delhi, except those run by the Central Government, will be for the residents of Delhi.

In Delhi, the infection is spiraling since the past week. Today the cases stand at 29,943 and the total deaths at 874.
