Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain's second test for coronavirus positive

He was admitted on Monday night to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in East Delhi with complaints of fever, breathing problem and low oxygen level but the result had come negative on Tuesday. As his fever and other corona-like symptoms were worsening, a second test was conducted.

NEW DELHI, June 18: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. Earlier on Tuesday too he had undergone a test after getting admitted on Monday night to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in East Delhi with complaints of fever, breathing problem and low oxygen level but the result had come negative. The second test was necessitated by rising temperature.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has taken charge of the health and other departments which Satyendar was looking after.

He had started showing symptoms on Sunday after a series of meetings with other Ministers and party leaders. He also attended a meeting of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

In a tweet on Tuesday he wrote: "Due to high grade fever and a sudden drop of my oxygen levels last night I have been admitted to RGSSH. Will keep everyone updated (sic)".

Meanwhile, his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) colleague Atishi and two other party leaders also have tested positive for coronavirus. The two others are Akshay Marathe, an advisor to Kejriwal, and Anindita Mathur, an advisor to Sisodia.

Last week Kejriwal also had a bout of fever and had gone into self- isolation at home. He tested negative.
