Mexico lifts travel curbs even as corona cases shoot up to 165K

Factories opened on Tuesday under precautionary arrangements and observing sanitary rules. At Baja California Sur, a tourist attraction, some hotels and restaurants also resumed activities. The border is set to open on June 22.

MEXICO CITY, June 19: Mexico has lifted the coronavirus lockdown restrictions although the cases of infections and casualties are shooting up.

The total cases till Friday stood at 1,65,455 and the total deaths 19,747. It has climbed the ladder of the worst hit fast to be next to Spain, France, Italy, UK, Brazil and the USA, in casualties.

Factories reopened on Tuesday under strict sanitary rules a day after travel curbs were lifted. In the State of Baja California Sur, a tourist attraction, some hotels and restaurants also resumed activities. The beaches began opening Monday with limited hours.

One by one, hotels across Mexico are announcing their reopening dates just in time for the border with the US to reopen to non-essential travel on June 22. Last week alone, dozens of hotel brands announced that their properties had already opened or will reopen in the not-too-distant future.
