JEE (Mains), JEE (Advanced), NEET (Medical) entrance exams put off to September

As the parents and students expressed health concerns over holding the exams in the midst of the corona pandemc, the Ministry has again revised the dates to: JEE (Mains) Sept 1 to 6, JEE (Advanced) Sept 27, NEET (Medical) Sept 13. Earlier, JEE (Mains - all engineering colleges) was fixed for July 18-23, JEE (Advanced) (for admission to IITs) for August 23 and NEET (Medical) for July 26.

NEW DELHI, July 3: As the coronavirus is still raging, Union HRD Ministry on Friday postponed the JEE and NEET 2020 examinations to September. "Keeping in mind the safety of students and to ensure quality education, we have decided to postpone JEE and NEET examinations," HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted.

The JEE Mains engineering entrance examination will be held from September 1 to 6, JEE Advanced examination will be held on September 27 and the NEET medical entrance examination will be conducted on September 13.

The panel set up on Thursday to report on the feasibility of conducting the examinations in July suggested the new dates. The panel took into account the health concerns of the students and parents over holding of the exams during the coronavirus epidemic. Parents of NRI students also had approached the Supreme Court pleading that there are no overseas centres functional and international travel is banned, all because of coronavirus, the exams should be postponed.

"Looking at the prevailing circumstances and requests received from students & parents appearing for JEE and NEEET examinations, a committee consisting of officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and other experts has been advised to review the situation and submit its recommendations latest by tomorrow," Pokhriyal had said on Thursday.

Earlier, NEET was fixed for July 26, JEE (Mains) for July 18- 23 and JEE (Advanced) (for admission to IITs) for August 23.
