Bengal Assembly shut for 10 days as staff tests positive for coronavirus

The Speaker said 22 employees of the Assembly, who had contact with the infected staff, have been asked to stay in home quarantine. The Assembly will reopen on July 27. Till date 34,427 people have been infected and over 1,000 have died.

KOLKATA, July 16: The Bengal Assembly building was closed on Wednesday for 10 days after a staff tested positive for coronavirus. The Assembly Speaker said 22 employees of the Assembly, who used to commute with the infected staff in a bus arranged by the Secretariat, have been asked to stay in home quarantine.

"One of the typists has tested positive for coronavirus. The Assembly will be shut for 10 days and will reopen on July 27. All scheduled programmes have been postponed till then," he told reporters.

According to the Health Department on Wednesday 1,589 new covid positive cases and 20 deaths were reported. With this, the total number of people infected with covid rose to 34,427 and the deaths number 1,000, according to the bulletin.
