Class XII result not a criteria for IIT admission as all exams were not held due to corona

Securing a minimum score of 75% marks in Class XII or a rank among the top 20 percentile in the qualifying examination was a requirement to be fulfilled to become eligible for admission to the IITs. As this year the board examinations were disrupted due to coronavirus epidemic, the school result will not be considered as a criteria for admission to the institutes of technology this time.

NEW DELHI, July 18: Class XII results will not be taken into account for admission to IITs this year as the school examinations were disrupted due to coronavirus epidemic, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' announced on Friday.

Apart from qualifying in JEE Mains engineering entrance test and thereafter JEE Advanced entrance examination, students were also required to have a minimum of 75 per cent marks in their school board Class XII examination for admission to IITs. While JEE Main entrance test is common for all engineering colleges across the country, JEE Advanced is for admission to IITs only. A pass in the JEE Mains is a qualisfication needed to appear for JEE Advanced.

For admissions to IITs, apart from qualifying the JEE (Advanced), the eligibility was to secure either minimum score of 75% marks in class XII Board examination or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations. Now the 75 per cent condition stands cancelled for this year's admission.

"Due to the partial cancellation of class 12 exams by several boards, Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE (Advanced), 2020, qualified candidates this time ... Qualified candidates who have passed class 12 examinations will now be eligible for admissions irrespective of marks obtained," the HRD Minister said in his tweets.
