Corona patient dies, relatives set ambulance ablaze in K'taka

The relatives of the patient accused the hospital staff of negligence in the treatment and pelted stones at the building. A constable was injured. The police have registered a case and arrested two persons.

BENGALURU, July 23: Angry relatives of a coronavirus patient who died in a hospital in Belagavi in Karnataka set an ambulance ablaze on Wednesday.

Gali ,55, was admitted to Belagavi Institute of Medical Science and Hospital on July 19 with breathing problems and the coronavirus test result was positive.

The relatives accused the hospital of negligence and pelted stones at the building, besides setting fire to an ambulance which was parked in the premises. A constable was injured.

The fire brigade arrived and doused the fire. The incident took place around 9 pm on Wednesday. The police have registered a case and arrested two persons.

Deputy Commissioner of Police MG Hiremath said the incident was an emotional reaction to the death. "We have now increased security arrangements and one police vehicle has been deployed to avoid repetition of the incident. Section 144 has been declared in the area around the hospital.
