MP CM Chouhan becomes first Chief Minister to test coronavirus positive
The Chief Minister said that on doctors' advice he was being admitted to Chirayu Hospital in the State. It is reported that he contracted the virus on a visit to Lucknow to attend Lalji Tandon's funeral. Minister Arvind Singh Bhadoria who accompanied him is also corona positive.

BHOPAL, July 25: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, 61, tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday. He has been hospitalised.

Chouhan, the first Chief Minister in the country to contract covid, has appealed to the people to follow the precautionary measures. On Saturday, in a series of tweets, Chouhan said he was experiencing covid symptoms, following which he got tested and the test results have come positive.

“My dear countrymen, I was having Covid-19 symptoms and after the test, my report came back positive. I appeal to all my colleagues that whoever has come in contact with me, get their corona test done. My close contacts, move to quarantine,” he said on Twitter.

"I am following all covid guidelines and have quarantined myself as per the advice of the doctors...I will be participating in the daily covid-19 review meeting via video conferencing," he added.

Later he said that on doctors' advice he was being admitted to Chirayu Hospital in the State.

Chouhan said the daily meetings on the coronavirus preparations in the State will be conducted by Home Minister Narottam Mishra, Minister of Urban Development and Administration Bhupendra Singh, Health Education Minister Vishvas Sarang and Health Minister Dr Prabhuram Choudhary.

Cooperatives Minister Arvind Singh Bhadoria and BJP president VD Sharma had accompanied Chouhan in a flight to Lucknow on July 21 to attend the funeral of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon. Bhadoria on return got himself tested and was found covid positive. Sharma tested negative. Chouhan developed symptoms like cough on Friday and got tested. The test came positive.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath tweeted, ""Shivraj ji, I was deeply saddened to learn that you were infected with coronavirus. I'm praying to god for your good health. However, the only matter of regret is that when we were serious about the pandemic, you used to term it as a drama, sometimes a 'darona', sometimes a weapon to save power/ government... Sometimes, you accused us. We told you at the beginning that the coronavirus is a serious disease and it is important to take precautions."

So far, around 800 people have died of coronavirus in the State.
