Kamala Harris is Biden's pick for VP: Post-dated news
The Politico fiasco reminds us of Indian statesman VK Krishna Menon's 'election' from Mumbai several decades ago, although this one was not motivated.

A piece of paper bearing the words 'Kamala Harris' was seen displayed from Biden's hand on Tuesday and photographers had clicked that. It could have started the speculation, it is said.

WASHINGTON, July 30: Publishing house Politico has said the post-dated publication on Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's VP pick was accidental. "A placeholder text mistakenly published on the site," so said its spokesperson. "Our standard practice is to use 'lorem ipsum' as placeholder text. In this instance, that did not happen. We regret the error and any confusion that it caused."

Post-dated August 1, Politico put out the report on the portal that California Senator Kamala Harris was chosen to be Joe Biden's running mate! The report, now taken down, read:

"Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris to become his running mate for the 2020 election on Aug 1, two weeks before the Democratic National Convention, after keeping his choice close to the chest for months."

"In his announcement, Biden called Harris 'a worthy opponent and a worthy running mate,' alluding to the pair’s rivalry during the earlier stages of the Democratic primary. She will bring her experience as a prosecutor, household name recognition, and skill as a debater to the ticket," the report added.

Joe Biden, 78, running neck-and-neck with President and Republican nominee Donald Trump in opinion polls, is the oldest to take office if he wins, and he has hinted that he will not seek a second term: This possibly puts the incumbent V-P almost on a semi-automatic route to the highest office in the following polls. Biden's vice-presidential pick therefore has very high stakes.

The media has speculated other probables like Senators Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Duckworth, former UN Ambassador of Obama times Susan Rice, former Representative Karen Bass and Florida Representative Val Demings.

Biden will announce his pick in the first week of August, he said. And his choice is a closely guarded secret kept close to his heart. However, his preference to choose a woman as deputy narrows down the choice nearer to Kamala Harris.

A piece of paper bearing the words 'Kamala Harris' was seen displayed from his hand on Tuesday and photographers had clicked that. It could have started the speculation, it is said.

Advantage Kamala Harris:-

  1. Biden's own experience of her proven campaign efficiency in the Dems nomination. She like Barack Obama and Bill Clinton added spice to her vice-presidential nomination campaign extolling the values she imbibed from her late mother who hailed from India. It is still a bet in the hands of Biden. Her immigrant origins also comes handy to help him fight Trump. These are two significantly emotive issues that arouse the American psyche and potentially boost Biden's prospects at the hustings, and he knows that.
  2. Added advantage of a Black heritage (Her father is a Jamaican) in the time of Black Lives Matter aaccentuated by the still burning issue of Floyd murder.
  3. Her California record as the Attorney General (prosecutor) - remarkable public life as a successful crime fighter.
  4. Her personal qualities he has publicly admired. He has talked of "great respect for her", "her skill as a debater", "a worthy opponent" during the Primary.
  5. Being scaringly strong, of mixed heritage, and just 55 - a complemetary back-up for Biden, 78. Even Trump certifies her: "I think she'd be a fine choice, Kamala Harris." Although he has no business to do so.
  6. Biden knows her better than all other likely candidates because one knows a person the best when they are on opposite sides in a battle.
  7. Her performance in the Senate

However, an intra-party campaign has started against Harris. A Florida businessman remarked, "She would be running for President the day of the inauguration," meaning she is too ambitious. Besides, some party men question her loyalty to Biden referring to her vitriolic attacks on the former VP during the Democratic Primary debates last year.
