Trump escorted out of briefing room after shooting near White House
President Donald Trump's press briefing was disturbed by a shooting incident near his James Brady room. He was taken to an area near the Oval Office as a precaution and the White House went into a mini lockdown.

WASHINGTON, Aug 11: President Donald Trump was abruptly escorted out of the James Brady briefing room in the White House, where he was holding a press conference, by security men as Secret Service guards shot at a person outside the White House on Monday. He was escorted to an area near the Oval Office as a precaution and the White House went into a mini lockdown.

The man allegedly approached a Secret Service uniformed officer standing post about a block from the White House grounds, telling the officer that he had a weapon. The suspect then turned around, ran aggressively towards the officer, eyewitnesses said. The Secret Service officer opened fire, striking the man in the torso.

But no firearm was found on the suspect. An internal investigation has been launched into the shooting of the 51-year-old suspect by the Secret Service officer.

Trump returned to the briefing room after a few moments and reported that there had been a shooting outside the White House. "It was law enforcement shot someone, it seems to be the suspect. And the suspect is now on the way to the hospital," Trump said.

"It might not have had anything to do with me," Trump said. "It might have been something else."
