Bengaluru violence over FB post claims 3 lives; 110 arrested
The clashes in Bengaluru began with a post on Facebook derogatory to Prophet Muhammad purportedly uploaded by Cong MLA Srinivas Murthy's nephew but his family has claimed that his FB account was hacked and misused and he is not responsible for the mischief.

BENGALURU, Aug 12: Three people died and 60 police personnel suffered injuries in clashes, arson and stone-pelting that began in the city on Tuesday night over a social media post. Over 100 people have been arrested till Wednesday evening. The nephew of Congress MLA from Pulikeshi Nagar Akhanda Srinivas Murthy has also been taken into cucustody for sharing the post.

"With regard to incidents in DJ Halli, accused Naveen arrested for posting derogatory posts.. also total 110 accused arrested for arson, stone-pelting, and assault on police. APPEAL TO ALL TO COOPERATE WITH POLICE TO MAINTAIN PEACE," the Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant tweeted.

Curfew was imposed in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station areas following the violence. Violence took place in Kaval Bysandra too.

The clashes began with the post on Facebook derogatory to Prophet Muhammad purportedly uploaded by Murthy's nephew but his family has claimed that his FB account was hacked and misused and he is not responsible for the mischief.

The violence began in DJ Halli area. A mob gathered outside Murthy's house and threw stones and torched several vehicles. The police station was also attacked.
