India suspends visas for one month; Total cases: 60

As almost all cases in India have come from other countries, the Government has suspended all visas and tightened controls to contain coronavirus

The Government also invoked the (2) epidemic diseases Act, bestowing upon the Centre and the States powers to screen and quarantine people suspected of coronavirus infection.

It also enforced the (3) disaster management Act to acquire overriding authority to take necessary steps it deems fit for the containment of the viral transmision.

Equipped with these sweeping powers anybody coming in from other countries can be isolated and quarantined, especially from China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, France, Germany and Spain, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said.

Besides, (4) screening at airports and ports are in full swing. (5) Contact-tracing, (6) surveillance by Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) monitors (7) isolation, and (8) quarantine are among other measures being undertaken to control the spread of the coronavirus infection in the country. (9) Entry of all ships at Indian ports have has been restricted to medical clearance. (10) Arrival of international travellers has been segregated for baggage, customs and immigration. Capital's 5th patient too had foreign travel

A 45-year old man from Janakpuri is the 5th coronavirus case in the National Capital. He had travelled to Italy, Japan and Geneva. He has been admitted to RML Hospital. Among his family members, his mother has started showing symptoms of flu.

A family friend (Trinagar) of another positive case, the third, belonging to Uttam nagar, has also been confirmed with covid-19 and admitted to Safdarjung hospital. This is listed as the 4th case in Delhi. The first case in Delhi came from Mayur Vihar.

Diseases control personnel have undertaken a survey of the Janakpuri man's neighbourhood to check for any cases.

Forty-eight unconfirmed cases are also in the hospitals. All those quarantined and all contacts of suspected and confirmed coronavirus cases are under suveillance on a twice-a-day basis.

The two nodal hospitals in Delhi are RML and Safdarjung. Besides, the Delhi Government has equipped 19 Government and six private hospitals with isolation wards.
