Kanimozhi asks Ayush Minister to take action against official for webinar incident
Kanimozhi asks Centre to conduct all official events in English and wherever Hindi is used to provide an English translation. She also sought action against Ayush Ministry Secretary for insulting Tamil participants of a virtual training session. On an earlier occasion she was asked by a CISF official at the Chennai airport if she is an Indian if she does not speak in Hindi.

CHENNAI, Aug 24: DMK MP Kanimozhi has written to Union Ayush Minister Shripad Yesso Naik to direct the officials of his Ministry to ensure that all official events are conducted in English and wherever Hindi is used to provide an English translation.

This follows the Secretary, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, asking the participants who had problem with Hindi to leave a tele training session organised by the Centre a few days ago. There were 37 participants from Tamil Nadu.

She said in her letter to the Minister, "An incident of the imposition of Hindi has taken place during a webinar conducted by the AYUSH Ministry. It is in clear violation of our constitutional principles."

Demanding action against the Secretary, she said, "During the event, it has been reported that the Union Secretary of the Government, Ministry of AYUSH, has told non-Hindi speaking participants to leave the meeting if they did not understand Hindi and continued to speak in Hindi."

The issue of 'imposition' of Hindi was revived in Tamil Nadu recently with DMK leader MK Stalin taking up the cudgels against the Centre to protect the regional language. The occasion was the new Central education policy. A fortnight ago, Kanimozhi complained that she was asked to speak in Hindi by a CISF staff at the Chennai airport, who also asked her if she is an Indian if she does not know Hindi.
