Inspired by Taj Mahal, Trumps wanted to know more!

The Trumps enjoyed the sunset view of the monument to love, Taj Mahal, built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to his most beloved begum, Mumtaz, on Monday evening soon after their arrival in India on a two-day visit.

AGRA, Feb 24: US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, alongwith their daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, on their second leg of a stand-alone whirlwind two-day tour of India arrived at the Taj Mahal in Agra on Monday evening to have a sunset view of the magnificent monument to love built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his most beloved wife Mumtaz.

The visitors moved into the Taj complex in eco-friendly e-carts from a hotel point nearby where the motorcade coming from Kheria airport 13 km away along a spectacularly decorated route showcasing cultural pageants stopped.

The guide, who took the dignitaries around the monument and inside the mausoleum explaining the wonderful intricacy of the Mughal architecture and other details of the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site, said the VVIPs were very friendly and inquisitive.

The Trumps were curious to know from where all the white marble was brought to build the massive edifice. They touched upon issues of an enigmatic Shah Jahan-Mumtaz relationship as also why a son (Aurangzeb) puts father behind bars!

The guide says no VVIP ever had in the past posed any probing and complex questions relating to the monument like the Trumps. He has now metamorphosed into a local VIP with many people, including press reporters, thronging his place in the vicinity.

The Trumps did not sit, like other VIP visitors, on the Diana bench, called Diana seat! The late Princess Diana of Britain sat on this bench on a 'single' visit in 1992 and so it came to be named after her.

"The Taj Mahal inspires awe, a timeless testament to the rich and diverse beauty of Indian Culture! Thank You, India," the US President and the FLOTUS wrote in the visitors' book.

They left for Delhi at 6:50 pm after spending over an hour in the Taj premises, quite inspired.

The Taj Mahal is made of ivory-white Makrana marble from Rajasthan, India's finest. The construction of the stunning monument commissioned in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal (Arjumand Banu Begum), and as her tomb, after her death at a young age (b. 1593) in 1631 during her 14th (or 12th?) childbirth, took Shah Jahan nearly 20 years. The emperor himself is laid to rest beside her!
