Typhoon Haishen devastates southern Japan, landfall in S Korea Monday

Crossing over Japan, Typhoon Haishen will make landfall on Monday morning in South Korea. Coming after Maysak typhoon, this too is "extremely strong", the director of the Japan Meteorological Agency said. It has battered and flooded the southern Japan.

JAPAN, Sept 7: Typhoon Haishen pummelled southern Japan on Sunday night, surging waves flooding coastal areas, forcing eight million people to evacuate. Schools and factories remained closed in response an advance warning. Thousands of homes went without power as Haishen blew in. High speed winds of 112 MPH brought heavy downpour. Over 500 flights have been cancelled.

Large waves, strong winds and heavy rains battered the southern coast of Japan's Kagoshima as it blew inwards. Crossing over Japan, Typhoon Haishen will make landfall in South Korea on Monday morning.

Maysak typhoon had devastated the region just days ago. Rescue efforts were not yet over and many wrere missing on that count as the Typhoon Haishen arrived. This too is "extremely strong", the director of the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Prime Minister Abe issued an appeal: "To all citizens, especially those who are living in areas which have a high possibility of river flooding or high tides, please stay alert to the information from your local authorities. And please take immediate action, to ensure your safety, to protect your life."
