Crime reporter beheaded in Mexico's most dangerous State of Veracruz

The Committee to Protect Journalists said half of all murders of journalists in the world takes place in Mexico. "We condemn the homicide of Julio Valdivia," the Veracruz Government said on its Twitter account. Valdivia was a 'Nota Roja' specialist.

MEXICO CITY, Sept 10: A journalist who used to report crime and violence in the most dangerous Gulf Coast State of Veracruz in Mexico was found beheaded on Wednesday.

Julio Valdivia, 44, was a reporter of 'Nota Roja'. His body was found near his motorcycle on railroad tracks in Tezonapa municipality area, about 100 km from State Capital Veracruz, a traditionally crime-infested region on the Mexican Gulf coast.

The 'Nota Roja' genre is the Mexican style of yellow journalism dealing with crime and other sensational types of news.

The prosecutor's office ruled out any accidental death on the train track. "Valdivia was found near the train tracks, beheaded and tortured," several local newspapers reported.

The 'Nota Roja' specialist is the fifth journalist killed in Mexico this year. Valdivia reported for the newspaper El Mundo de Veracruz, which said he had covered a confrontation between police and suspected criminals the previous day.

According to a report of the Committee to Protect Journalists, half of all murders of journalists in the world takes place in Mexico. "We condemn the homicide of Julio Valdivia," the Veracruz Government said on its Twitter account.

A local media protection group known as the CEAPP in a statement demanded action. Valdivia did not have protection.

Veracruz is one of the States in federal Mexico on the coast of Gulf of Mexico.
