Beware of scaremongers, stories of reinfection of coronavirus are false positives!

The reports of cases of reinfection of coronavirus coming from Mumbai and Ahmedabad lack basic details and they could be false positives. IndiaTravelTimes.com had published earlier reports from experts who had studied a large number of recovered cases to establish there is no reinfection by the same pathogen and why. They also found that the progression of convalescence cannot be determined in the case of coronavirus.

NEW DELHI, Sept 10: There are reports coming from Gujarat that there have been four cases of reinfection of coronavirus. These relate to the period from August 18 to September 6, and they reappeared after four months, it is claimed. But there are no details, even as no tests are yet confirmatory of active infection and symptoms overlap with those of other illnesses.

These reports and those from States like Maharashtra display a lack of adequate grasp of clinical knowledge about the new virus. Released by unauthorised people, without head or tail, they look like sheer scaremongering for excitement at a time the whole world is caught in a deathly quagmire.

How the presence of the pathogen shown in re-tests of recovered persons are false positives. This point has been repeatedly illustrated in the back files of IndiaTravelTimes.com, supported by studies. Just absence of antibodies does not prove absence of acquired immunity against coronavirus either. Antibodies could be created instantly in cases of fresh virus contact in recovered individuals who are showing an absence of antibodies. This is made possible by a relay signal built into the immune system.

While the serological tests are doing more harm than good, the antigen tests too are not confirmatory. The PCR test is the only one accepted as gold standard everywhere. But here too there have been false positives as it does not for certain distinguish between a past contact and a current full-blown infection always, to determine reinfection of coronavirus.

However, let us keep in mind one thing, tests are not for those who take the test, they are for the health department's survey, because there is no medicine for coronavirus.

The new coronavirus is not in the medical books. So the best is leaving it to the doctor on the spot to diagnose and treat symptomatically, especially when the symptoms are quite misleading, as they are common with several other illnesses. Except, of course, in the Type II case of breathlessness accompanied by high temperature.

The report from Ahmedabad is attributed to a press release issued by the municipal corporation!!
