Poisoned Russian Opposition leader Alexei Navalny discharged from Berlin hospital
A statement from the Charite hospital in Berlin said that 44-year-old Navalny had spent 32 days there, including 24 days in intensive care, and that he might possibly achieve full recovery. The hospital had found in lab investigation that the Putin critic was poisoned with Novichok nerve agent. His supporters had shifted him out of a Russian hospital to Charite for safety.

BERLIN, Sept 24: Russian Opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been discharged from Charite hospital here where he was brought for treatment for suspected poisoning he suffered while on an election campaign in Siberia. Doctors have said he will fully recover.

The Charité Hospital found in lab investigation that Russian President Putin's critic Alexei Navalny was poisoned with Novichok nerve agent. French and Swedish tests also had confirmed the use of Novichok nerve agent. Subsequently, Germany, Sweden, France and the UK taken up the matter with Russian President Vladimir Putin and sought an explanation. Poisoning of opponents by the ruling clique is a very old standard method of silencing them in Russia.

Alexei Navalny's supporters allege that he was poisoned on the orders of Putin. The Kremlin has strongly denied any involvement. Instead, Putin reportedly remarked that Navalny might have poisoned himself.

Alexei Navalny had collapsed on a return flight from Tomsk in Siberia to Moscow on August 20. The plane was diverted for medical aid at a Russian hospital in Omsk from where he was shifted to the Charité hospital in the German Capital Berlin on August 22.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Alexei Navalny mocked remarks by Putin that he had poisoned himself.

French newspaper Le Monde reported that in a telephone call with President Emmanuel Macron on September 14 Putin had spoken "with contempt about Alexei Navalny, considering him a simple internet troublemaker who had simulated diseases in the past". Alexei Navalny responded saying "Putin has outsmarted me."

"Based on the patient's progress and current condition, the treating physicians believe that complete recovery is possible. However, it remains too early to gauge the potential long-term effects of his severe poisoning," a Charité hospital statement said.
