The end came on Friday morning. Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was admitted at MGM Healthcare in Chennai on August 5 after testing positive for coronavirus. However, SPB tested negative for coronavirus on September 8 but continued to be on the ventilator, may be because of post-covid pulmonary complications. His wife Savitri had also tested positive for covid and had been hospitalised.

CHENNAI, Sept 25: Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who had been undergoing treatment for coronavirus at MGM Hospital here since last month, passed away on Friday morning. On Thursday doctors at the hospital had said his condition was "extremely critical." However, the 74-year old singer had tested negative for coronavirus on September 8 but he continued to be on the ventilator, according to his close friend and actor Kamal Haasan who visited him in the hospital on Thursday night. Possibly he developed post-covid pulmonary complications.
