After Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia bans flights from India to check corona spread
The Saudi civil avaiation authority informed its Indian counterparts that because of increasing risk of coronavirus in India it is barring Indian airlines from flying to the kingdom. Those who had visited India, Brazil and Argentina in the previous 14 days prior to arrival in Saudi Arabia will also not be allowed into Saudi Arabia.

NEW DELHI, Sept 25: Saudi Arabia has barred planes from India, Brazil and Argentina over surging cases of coronavirus in these countries.

The Indian airlines were informed by the civil aviation regulator, General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), through a letter on Wednesday. It did not say for how long the ban would continue.

Moreover, the Civil Aviation Authority said anybody who had visited India, Brazil and Argentina in the previous 14 days prior to arrival in Saudi Arabia will not be allowed in in view of the tightened coronavirus restrictions.

In the past few months of coronavirus restrictions, Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo had been operating only repatriation and chartered flights to and from Saudi Arabia and other countries.

Earlier, Hong Kong had also banned Air India flights due to coronavirus.

Vistara to scale up domestic operations

Meanwhile, Vistara CEO Leslie Thng told PTI that the airline will be scaling up its existing operations to 100 daily flights by month-end from 80 at present. Earlier, pre-corona, the airlines was operating 200 flights to 34 countries a day.

Even as all scheduled international flights continue to be banned since March because of covid, some skeleton domestic services are now operating within India since the lifting of the lockdown, apart from the repatriation and chartered flights.

While traffic is nil on several routes, the major cities have shown a rising trend.
