Trump selects Justice Amy Coney in place of Ginsburg at Supreme Court
Amy, a likely replacement for the late justice Ginsburg, is supported by conservatives. Nomination by President Trump needs to be confirmed by the Senate. Trump is in a hurry to fill the vacancy before the election on November 3. Four years ago, Senate Republicans had refused to even consider President Obama’s nomination of a justice, 237 days before election day.

WASHINGTON, Sept 26: President Donald Trump has reportedly selected Justice Amy Coney Barrett in place of former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who died last week. Amy is a favourite of conservatives. She needs to be confirmed by the Senate.

Trump has been criticised for his hurry to fill the spot just before election, which has never happened in the past. This especially when he says if he loses the election the Supreme Court will decide the result! He did not answer a question if the transfer of power will be peaceful. He will accept the results of a free and fair election but he is not sure about, he said. Meanwhile, the White House criticised the FBI Director for saying that "historically I have not seen a coordinated fraud in elections."

Four years ago, Senate Republicans refused to even consider President Barack Obama’s nomination to replace Justice Scalia with Judge Merrick B. Garland, announced 237 days before Election Day, on the grounds that it should be left to whoever was chosen as the next president, according to New York Times.

However, Trump told reporters on Friday, “I haven’t said it was her, but she is outstanding.” The liberals have ideological differences in Amy's nomination.

Justice Ginsburg was a pioneer for women’s rights and belonged to the liberal wing of the court. Amy's appointment will give more weighatge to the right. Unofficially, six of a total of 9 judges are conservatives. It is no secret Trump wants to expedite the posting before election on November 3.

On Friday, Ginsburg's casket was laid in the US Capitol where Trump and others paid their respects. That included her personal trainer Bryant Johnson who paid his tribute in his own style, three push-ups on the floor in front of the casket.

Justice Ginsburg became the first woman and first Jewish person to lie in state at US Capitol.
