Even sold jewellery to pay legal fees, Anil Ambani to UK court
Anil Ambani is facing a lawsuit by three Chinese banks in a UK court. He was ordered by the court to list all his assets worldwide after he failed to clear dues worth $717 million to these banks. Responding to questions, he said the reports of luxury cars were mere media speculations and he never used any luxury cars. "I have never owned a Rolls-Royce. At present, I use one car,” he added. "I'm a simple man of simple tastes," he said. Anil Ambani is the younger brother of Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries.

LONDON, Sept 26: Indebted industrialist Anil Ambani, chairman of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), has told a UK court in London that he had to sell his jewellery even to pay legal fees in the ongoing case. He said he had received Rs 9.9 cr from the jewellery sales since January last.

He was questioned during the video hearing for about three hours over his assets, liabilities, expenses by the London court on Friday in connection with a case over repayment of dues to Chinese banks. He is facing a lawsuit by three Chinese banks in the UK court. The dues is $717 million.

He said the reports of luxury cars were mere media speculations and he never used any luxury cars. "I have never owned a Rolls-Royce. At present, I use one car,” he added. 'I'm a simple man of simple tastes,' he said.

Earlier his plea for private hearing in order to avoid embarrassment was turned down by the court. He was asked to provide a list of assets in his own name or jointly owned, along with bank statements and credit card statements for the last 24 months.

He said that his expenses are being borne by his wife and family and he has even taken a loan from his son.

The three State-owned Chinese banks which filed the lawsuit are Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Development Bank and Exim Bank of China. They claim Ambani owes them a $680 million.

Anil Ambani is the younger brother of Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries.
