No herd immunity against coronavirus in India yet: Vardhan
NVardhan said since the outbreak of the pandemic, India has made tremendous progress in indigenously manufacturing medical devices for its requirements. The country is now making its own ventilators, PPEs, testing kits and many other medical devices.

NEW DELHI, Sept 28: There is no herd immunity yet in India, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has said, quoting from the preliminary results of the second sero survey undertaken by the ICMR. He said the findings of the sero survey will be be released soon.

Dr Vardhan said, "The second sero survey indications are that we are far from having achieved any kind of herd immunity which necessitates that all of us should continue following COVID appropriate behaviour. The first sero-survey of May 2020 revealed that the nationwide prevalence of novel coronavirus infection was only 0.73 per cent."

He told the media on Sunday, "In the coming days we will not just be able to meet domestic requirements, but also be able to fulfill global demand for low-cost, quality medical devices. In the last few months since the outbreak of the pandemic, India had made rapid strides in the manufacturing of ventilators, PPEs, testing kits and many medical devices."

The Health Minister said that the public healthcare expenditure will be raised from 1.15 to 2.5 per cent of GDP by 2025. “It will mean an actual increase of 345 per cent over the current share in this short period of time,” he said.

Till Saturday the total global cases were 3,31,04,260 and the total deaths 9,99,433. In India, there was a total of 59,96,823 cases and 94,559 deaths.
