Maharashtra restaurants, bars to reopen in Oct first week: Industry cheers up
The restaurants and bars in Maharashtra are set to reopen in the first week of October. A delegation of the industry on Monday met Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the reopening of the business in the State. The standard operating procedures are being finalised.

MUMBAI, Sept 29: The Maharashtra Government has decided to allow restaurants and bars to reopen in the State in the first week of October 1. They remained closed since the coronavirus lockdown was clamped in March. Recently when the lockdown was lifted they were allowed to do takeaways and home delivery business.

The Hotel and Restaurant Association has welcomed the decision. "Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) was sympathetic towards the restaurant players for not being allowed to operate for over six months. He has indicated that his government will mostly allow the re-opening of restaurants but he has stressed on restaurants' responsibility towards their customers' health and safety after they reopen for business," the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI) Senior Vice-President Pradeep Shetty said in a statement.

A delegation of the industry had on Monday met Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the reopening of the business in the State.

HRAWI president Sherry Bhatia said that the Chief Minister assured them that restaurants will be allowed to re-open in the first week of October.

The standard operating procedures are being finalised for the functioning of the restaurants.

The restaurants and bars industry is the second-largest employment provider with 60 lakh workers.
