Babri Masjid demolition case verdict: No evidence, all acquitted, demolition was not pre-planned

In the absence of evidence, the CBI court acquitted all the 32 accused in the historic Babri Masjid demolition case on Wednesday. The key accused in the case included former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, former Union Minister MM Joshi, former Union Minister Uma Bharti and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh. Out of the 32 accused, 26 appeared in the court. The rest were appearing through video conferencing.

LUCKNOW, Sept 30: The court has acquitted all the 32 accused in the historic Babri Masjid demolition case. CBI judge SK Yadav on Wednesday said in his judgement that there is no evidence against the accused that they planned or participated in the demolition of the mosque.

Out of the 32 accused, 26 appeared in the court while the rest were appearing through video conferencing. The key accused in the historic demolition case included former Deputy Prime Minister and BJP supremo LK Advani, former Union Minister MM Joshi, former Union Minister Uma Bharti and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

Among those who appeared in the court were Vinay Katiyar, Jai Bhagwan Goyal, Sadhvi Rithambhara, Acharya Dharmadas, Lallu Singh, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Ram Vilas Vedanti, Champat Rai and Sakshi Maharaj.

Reacting to the judgement, Advani said, “The judgement vindicates my personal and BJP’s belief and commitment toward the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.”

The medieval Babri Masjid structure was demolished in 1992 by a crowd of fanatics leading to communal violence that claimed 3,000 lives.

The UP police have been placed on high alert to avert any untoward incident following the verdict coming after three decades of the demolition of the 16th century mosque in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992.
