Trump flown to military hospital as corona symptoms show up
Showing symptoms of coronavirus, Trump has been shifted to the military hospital, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, by Marine One. He started with cold-like conditions on Friday and was shifted in the evening. He had tested positive late Thursday. But when did he catch the infection and how long he remained asymptomatic? Next two days are critical for a prognosis. The only risk factor for him is that age is not on his side.

WASHINGTON, Oct 3: President Donald Trump, who tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, was admitted to the military hospital on Friday evening after he started showing symptoms. He was flown to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center by Marine One helicopter.

Earlier, during the course of the day, the President received a single 8-gram dose of polyclonal antibody cocktail, his physician Sean Conley said in an afternoon memo officially issued to reporters from the White House. The combo is Regeneron's experimental drug. There was no reaction. He is also taking zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin and aspirin, Conley added in his medical bulletin.

His wife First Lady Melania Trump, who also tested positive for covid, has also developed symptoms like cough and headache. She is physically healthy with no comorbidities but has a history of kidney problem which may be counted as a vulnerability in coronavirus infection if at all she still has the problem but that is not confirmed.

The only risk factor with Trump is that he is 74 years old. He turned 74 in June. But he is healthy and very active. There are no known abnormalities in his medical history except that his coronary calcium score has been progressively moving up over the years but that has not reached an alarming level of full-blown sclerosis needing any major surgical intervention.

He weighs 101 kg and apparently obese but his BMI is within limit because he is 6 feet 3 inches tall. So medically he is only mildly obese. Although obesity is considered a major factor for hospitalisation in covid cases.

His BP is only slightly elevated which is not abnormal for his age. He has no diabetes. His last physical was done in April and nothing adverse was detected.

On the minus side, being a workaholic, he doesn't exercise much and is fond of fast food and takes no veggie.

Common comorbidities to be watched for in covid cases are asthma, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, coronary artery disease, history of stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and obesity.

His other family members have tested negative for coronavirus, till Friday.

Is it Type I mild attack?

It may be recalled that he was not in his usual self at the Tuesday debate with his presidential opponent Joe Biden. Did he get infected earlier? If so, is it only a Type I mild attack as there was no exacerbation over the week?

He had gone to Cleveland with his wife. His adviser Hope Hicks, who also accompanied, tested positive early on Thursday which prompted Trump to check his swab. Hicks was in close physical proximity with Trump throughout the week. On Wednesday too she had gone for electioneering in Minnesota, meeting supporters in large numbers throwing caution to the wind. On Thursday she pulled out and Trump continued with his hectic electioneering going to New Jersey for a fund-raising campaign. On return he, unusually, fell asleep in Air Force One. Trump was last seen in public Thursday afternoon when he returned from New Jersey.

When did he catch the infection? Corona's incubation period is 14 days. Symptoms like fatigue, body pain etc start only after a minimum of two days, the asymptomatic state can go up to 14 days. Trump disclosed on Friday that he has cold like problems and later had to be shifted to the military hospital. He was tested positive late Thursday. Next two days are critical for a prognosis.
