LUCKNOW, Oct 3: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has tested positive for coronavirus. He went for a test on Friday after he had symptoms of covid.

Maurya, 51, holds the portfolio of PWD Ministry.

"After the initial symptoms of corona infection, I got myself tested. My report has come positive today. I request you all who came in my contact in the last few days to go to the nearest health centre and get yourself tested and follow the COVID rules," he tweeted.

Several Ministers of the UP Government had tested positive for the infection in the past few months. Two of them, Kamal Rani Varun and Chetan Chauhan, died.

TMC MLA Gurupada Mete dies of coronavirus

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress MLA Gurupada Mete, 51, who had tested positive for COVID-19 last month, died in a private hospital on Thursday. The two-time MLA from Indus constituency in Bankura district was admitted to the hospital in Howrah district last month. Mete was also suffering from complications of heart and kidney diseases.

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Minister for Forest and Environment Harak Singh Rawat, who tested Covid-19 positive on September 22, was admitted to a hospital on Thursday night after complaining of breathing problems.

It may be noted that Rawat had tested positive a day before the one-day State Assembly session was held on September 23 and was in home-isolation since then as he didn’t display any major symptoms till Thursday night.

“The Minister, however, is in a stable condition now, as per the doctors treating him. He is showing improvement in the tests done on Friday morning. The doctors stated that the infection in his blood has reduced,” said Narendra Semwal, Rawat’s public relation officer.

20K Amazon workers are covid positive

SEATTLE: Amazon said on Thursday that nearly 20,000 of its front-line US workers have tested positive for the COVID-19. It said that the infection rate of its employees was well below that of the general US population. The disclosure comes after months of pressure from Amazon workers and labour unions.

The company said that it examined data from March 1 to September 19 on 1.37 million workers across the US.
