PARIS, Oct 11: Five people died as two planes collided mid-air in western France on Saturday afternoon. The mishap that occurred in south-east of the city of Tours, involved two light aircraft.
One of the two planes, a microlight (ULM plane) carrying two people, landed on a fence at a house in the town of Loches, 46 km south-east of Tours. The other plane, bigger of the two, a Diamond DA40, landed in an uninhabited area nearby. It had three tourists on board.
The tourist plane had reportedly taken off from Poitiers, situated around 100 km from Loches.
Thirty gendarmes and paramilitary police officers sealed the crash site and the residents have been restrained from entering the area. Fifty firefighters were called out.
The victims have not been identified. The details about the microlight flight are not available.
