Nagaland Minister Chang dies of covid; Himachal CM Thakur tests positive
Minister CM Chang was a retired IAS officer and a former Member of Parliament. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kohima. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur contracted the infection after he had been to Manali to prepare for Modi's visit to inaugurate the Rohtang tunnel.

KOHIMA, Oct 13: Nagaland Minister CM Chang died of Covid-19 complications in the State Capital on Monday even as Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur reported positive for the infection. Chang, who was Minister for Environment, was 77. He was a retired IAS officer and a former Member of Parliament.

Chang was undergoing treatment at the Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK). A two-day mourning period from October 13 to October 14 has been declared as a mark of respect to Chang. A State funeral will also be accorded to him.

He was elected to the Assembly from 51 Noksen constituency in Tuensang district in 2013 and retained the seat in 2018 on Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) ticket.

The State had recorded a total of 7,240 corvid cases till October 12 and the casualties stood at 18.

Earlier, Minister for Rural Development Metsubo Jamir tested positive for COVID-19. He took the test after a visit to Delhi.

Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur tests positive

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

“A few days ago, due to contact with a corona positive person, I was quarantined at my residence for the past one week, due to some symptoms of corona from last two days, I got a corona test done today, which has been reported positive. I am isolated in my official residence on the advice of doctors,” he posted on Twitter on Monday.

An official spokesperson said the Chief Minister on October 3 had met some persons in Manali, who tested positive for coronavirus infection. His private secretary RN Batta, who had tested positive, had travelled in a helicopter with Thakur from Manali.

Besides the Chief Minister, Banjar MLA Surinder Shourie had also tested positive. They had gone to Manali for make the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to inaugurate the Rohtang tunnel.

Power Minister Sukh Ram Chaudhary, Irrigation and Public Health Minister Mahender Singh and Urban Development Minister Suresh Bharadwaj, a dozen MLAs, including Reeta Dhiman, Paramjit Singh Pammi, Lakhwinder Rana, Rakesh Jamwal, Vinod Kumar, Mohan Lal Brakta and Surinder Shourie, and Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami are among those who tested positive for coronavirus in the recent past.
