Cristiano Ronaldo tests positive for corona, dropped from Nations League match
Portugal captain Ronaldo has tested positive but has no covid symptoms. The Juventus star had earlier featured in Portugal's friendly against Spain and Nations League match vs France. He may miss the next two matches for Juventus as well.

LISBON, Oct 14: Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for coronavirus, the Portuguese soccer federation said on Tuesday. Ronaldo was doing well and had no symptoms. Ronaldo was dropped from the country's Nations League match against Sweden on Wednesday. He will self-isolate before joining his Serie A side Juventus.

The Portugal captain and Juventus star had earlier featured in Portugal's friendly against Spain and Nations League match vs France. He is in isolation. The Covid-19 test was carried out recently as a preparation ahead of Portugal's clash with Sweden.

All the other players of the Portugal squad have tested negative and would be available for Wednesday's Nations League match against Sweden.

The 5-time Ballon d'Or winner, 35, is likely to miss the next two matches for Juventus as well.

Court allows corona curbs in New York

ALBANY (New York): The court has allowed New York’s plan to limit the size of religious gatherings in covid hot spots. US District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto dismissed a lawsuit brought by rabbis and synagogues. They argued that the restrictions were unconstitutional.

The Jewish holy days were this weekend. Indoor prayer services cannot have more than 10 people, as per the rule. The Government has to protect the public, the judge said.

Anti-mask protests in Rome

ROME: Two anti-mask protests were held in Rome on Saturday even as Italy is seeing a new wave of of coronavirus infections. A new order asks Italians to wear masks outdoors or face fines of up to 1,000 euros ($1,200).

There were 5,724 new cases and 29 deaths in the last 24 hours. Most of the cases were from Lombardy and Campania. The total of cases so far 3,50,000 and deths 36,140.

At Duomo Cathedral In Milan, entertainment workers protested against the government’s economic policies to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

"From now on, masks and protective gear have to be brought with us when we leave our house and worn. We have to wear them all the time unless we are in a situation of continuous isolation," Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said.

Romanians protest in Bucharest

BUCHAREST (Romania): Despite a rise in covid cases, several hundred Romanians gathered in Bucharest on Saturday to protest agaisnt coronavirus restrictions. They had a clash with the police at the University Square in the Capital.

The protesters were mainly right-wing nationalists. Romania has reported so far 1,52,400 coronavirus cases and 5,350 deaths.

People chanted slogans against wearing face masks saying that the face coverings restrict their freedom. The total number of confirmed infections in Romania - the country of some 19 million people - stood at over 152,000 including 5,358 deaths.
