Hyderabad goes under gushing waters: Don't step out of home for 48 hours: Govt

Hyderabad has been inundated by rushing flood waters brought down by a cyclone in the past four days. The weather office has warned of further rain fury in the coming days. In the city alone 19 people died in the past days. People have been warned not to step out. This is a unprecedented calamity to befall the city of Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD, Oct 15: The Telangana Government has asked the people in Hyderabad not to step out of their homes for the next 48 hours as the IMD has warned of more heavy rain and flooding following the cyclone. The heavy downpour since Tuesday has claimed 19 lives in wall collapses and floods in Hyderabad city.

Efforts are on to restore electricity supply and set up medical camps even as rescue and relief operations continued.

Meanwhile, Golkonda's 350-year old Shahpur Fort in Telangana's Jangaon district collapsed in heavy rain on Thursday. A part of the Majnu Burj in the Naya Qila area of Golconda Fort which houses a massive brass cannon had collapsed on Monday evening. The cannon, which Mughal ruler Aurangzeb used to attack Golconda Fort in 1687, has not been damaged.

In another rain-related mishap, eight members of a family, who were watching the rushing waters at Palace View Colony in Bandlaguda, were washed away by floods. Another six members of the family are still missing and presumed drowned.
