BENGALURU, Oct 15: Sri Lankan drug trafficker Sunil Gamini Fonseka alias ‘Katta’ Kamini has been arrested from his hideout in Bengaluru by the ‘Q’ branch of the Tamil Nadu police and remanded in judicial custody, Times of India reported.
'Katta', 52, is reportedly a leading member of Kimbula-ela Guna’s underworld gang operating in Sri Lanka. He is an accused in several murder cases and drug trafficking. He is said to have contacts with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and other international drug traffickers.
'Katta' was once sentenced to death in a drug trafficking case in Sri Lanka, but escaped. He had illegally stayed in Pudupakkam near Kancheepuram for six months posing as an entrepreneur. From there he fled to Bengaluru.
He obtained Indian passport fraudulently after arriving in Tamil Nadu in 2013. He was living with fake Indian passports and has obtained voter identity cards and ration card in Chengalpattu and in Bengaluru. He kept changing his place of stay to dodge the police. However, based on an intelligence input, Q Branch team arrested him.
'Katta' was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a court in Chengalpattu on Tuesday.
