Buses run on hydrogen-blended CNG inaugurated in Delhi
Calling hydrogen the ultimate fuel, Dharmendra Pradhan said hydrogen will play a major role in India's clean energy campaign. He said hydrogen is the ultimate fuel. It produces clean water in emission, the Minister said while inaugurating bus run on hydrogen-blended CNG (HCNG) at Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depot.

NEW DELHI, Oct 22: Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the trial run of Delhi's buses fueled by hydrogen-blended CNG (HCNG) at the Rajghat bus depot of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) on Tuesday.

Pradhan said providing clean and reliable energy supplies is the top priority of the Government. "I am happy to note that the scientists of Indian Oil R&D have have developed an innovative technology for the production of hydrogen- mixed CNG," he complimented the scientists.

He said hydrogen will play a major role in India's energy transformation, calling hydrogen the ultimate fuel. He said it produces clean water in emission.

The Minister said that this pilot project will be unique. It will help the county and the world as a whole. He also inaugurated the Indian Oil's H-CNG plant.

"Apart from this, it has many other virtues as the capacity to get the rural sector involved with the energy sector through biomass. This pilot project will be unique. It will help the county and the world as a whole," he stated.

Kailash Gahlot, Minister of Transport, Government of Delhi, was also present on occasion.

Refueling of H-CNG blends in vehicles can be performed with minimum modifications in the infrastructure that is currently under use for dispensing CNG, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

H-CNG blends can be produced directly from CNG, bypassing the energy-intensive electrolysis process and high-pressure blending costs. The cost of H-CNG production is about 22% cheaper than conventional physical blending, it said.
