Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi suspended; inquiry into 'irregularities'
President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday suspended Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi on the charge of irregularities and appointed Prof PC Joshi as the Vice-Chancellor. He has also ordered an inquiry into the allegations of dereliction of duties and lack of commitment and devotion to duty against Tyagi.

NEW DELHI, Oct 29: The Delhi University Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Tyagi, has been suspended by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, who is also the Visitor of the university, on the recommendation of the Education Ministry following a controversy over the appointment of Deputy Registrar.

The Education Ministry has also ordered an inquiry into alleged irregularities committed by the Vice-Chancellor, who had been on leave since July last.

"The President of India in his capacity as Visitor of the University, on consideration of facts and material available on record, has ordered to conduct an inquiry into the allegations of dereliction of duties and lack of commitment and devotion to duty against him," a Ministry statement said on Wednesday.

As per the intimation to the university Registrar, Prof PC Joshi will be the Vice-Chancellor.

Tyagi has been on leave since July 2 when he was admitted to Delhi's AIIMS hospital. Professor PC Joshi was then given the charge on July 17.

On return, Tyagi appointed Prof PC Jha as interim registrar while the executive council resolved that Prof Suman Kundu would continue as Director, South Campus and acting registrar. Then Tyagi removed Prof PC Joshi as pro-VC and appointed Geeta Bhatt in his place.

Following these developments, the Ministry on Wednesday recommended Tyagi's suspension.
