Biden promises protection to immigrants, financial aid to Indian-American families

US Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden has asserted that Kamala Harris' nomination as the vice-presidential candidate is the fruition of his long friendship with India and an example of his deep connections with the Indian-American community. Touching upon Indo-US relations Biden said the US and India will stand together against terrorism and that he will ensure no country like China will pose any threat to India.

SAN LEANDRO (California), Oct 30: Fuelling Indian-American sentiments on the eve of the presidential election, Democratic candidate Joe Biden has castigated his Republican opponent and President, Donald Trump, for his "dangerous rhetoric" about immigrants that is encouraging hate crimes.

America will once again welcome immigrants and reduce backlogs on employment-based visas, he wrote in an article in 'India-West', an Indian-American weekly paper published from California.

Biden promised the Indian communiity that if elected he would help more Indian-American families through a first-time home buyer's credit worth up to $15,000. That would make them better off.

Recalling his long friendship with India, Biden said he always felt deeply connected to the Indian-American community and that is why Kamala Harris was chosen as the Vice-Presidential nominee.

The presidential hopeful said the Indian-American electorate of nearly 2 million voters is a powerful force that can make all the difference in the polls.

On Indo-US relations Biden said, "The US and India will stand together against terrorism in all its forms and work together to promote a region of peace and stability where neither China nor any other country threatens its neighbors."

"We value education, courage, and resilience. But faced with the deadly pandemic, Donald Trump panicked. He is erratic. He doesn’t believe in science or respect experts like Dr. Fauci. His negligence has cost lives and livelihoods and the pandemic is worsening with Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations increasing across the country.

"After four years, President Trump has left you wondering whether your children and grandchildren will have the future you dream for them and that so many of you came here for and achieved," Biden asked.
