NASSAU (The Bahamas), Nov 1: Sean Connery, wellknown as the James Bond actor,
died on Saturday at the age of 90 years in the Bahamas. He was ailing for some
time. He leaves his wife Micheline and sons Jason and Stephane.
He was the first James Bond actor on the silver screen and acted in seven of
those spy thrillers. Daniel Craig is the current James Bond. Sir Sean won an
Oscar in 1988 for his role in The Untouchables. He stayed on the screen for
well over five decades. He was knighted in 2000.
He had also acted in films like The Hunt for Red October, Highlander, Indiana
Jones and the Last Crusade, The Rock, The Name of the Rose, The Avengers.
"He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could
be measured in megawatts; he helped create the modern blockbuster...He will
continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come. My thoughts
are with his family and loved ones," Daniel Craig mourned.
Sir Sean started with 'No Road Back' in 1957. A gangster film. And that turned
out to be a good starting point. He was also in Anna Karenina on the BBC in
1961. He first played James Bond in 'Dr No' in 1962. There was no stopping Sir
Sean and he earned good innings playing 007 as the best actor. He was an actor
with a formula that suited the audience appeal film after film. He became 'James
Bond.'
"He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible
entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words
'the name's Bond... James Bond,'" Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara
Broccoli said.
Sir Sean always cherished his ancestry and that gave birth to 'Being A Scot.'
The seven '007' are: Dr No (1962); From Russia with Love (1963); Goldfinger
(1964); Thunderball (1965); You Only Live Twice (1967); Diamonds are Forever
