29 Indians on board infected MS Braemar at Cuban port

With several passengers and crew being coronavirus infected, Barbados and Bahamas had refused permission for the ship to anchor at their ports.

HAVANA, Mar 16: Refused berthing by Barbados and Bahamas, British cruise ship MS Braemar, with 29 Indian crew, was allowed to dock at its port by Cuba. Five people on board were infected by coronavirus and 40 others were in isolation with flu symptoms. The ship is carrying 682 passengers and 381 crew.

All the crew and the passengers, numbering 1,063, will be repatriated to Britain, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said.

"Following request from #UK Government, #Cuba has authorised docking of cruise ship MS Braemar with a small number of passengers testing positive for covid-19," the Cuban Foreign Minister said on Twitter.

The cruise ship is operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines. Early this month, Colombia and Canada had announced that passengers disembarked from the ship had coronavirus. Subsequently, Bahamas and Barbados refused entry at their ports.
