Trump's White House staff refuse entry to Biden's transition team
Trump, who has claimed 'victory' in the election, has baselessly accused the Dems of electoral malpractices and "stealing" the election. He has threatened to move the US Supreme Court. Republican leaders like ex- President George W Bush and Senator Mitt Romney want Trump to concede. So also at home, wife Melania and son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner. It is being murmured ear to ear, Dems may bring bouncers!

WASHINGTON, Nov 10: The White House under incumbent President Donald Trump has refused space and money ("ascertainment") for the transition team of president-elect Joe Biden to start preparatory work, as allowed under the law, that will lead to the final takeover on January 20. Normally the "ascertainment" is issued in hours to a day of results being known, not waiting for declarations.

The administrator of the General Services Administration in the White House which initiates the transfer process, Emily W Murphy, has to sign a letter ("ascertainment") to release funds to the Biden transition team, with which the transition work begins. She has not signed. A GSA spokesperson in a statement said later the General Services Administration "ascertains the apparent successful candidate once a winner is clear based on the process laid out in the Constitution." The election was held on November 3 and the results were known last Saturday.

This could be because Trump has not conceded the election yet although Biden has delivered his speech as the news agencies and networks - traditionally recognised entities in the US - had called the race based on counting although all the declarations have not been made.

It looks Trump is not going to hold the 'keys' out to Biden so soon, leading to tension building up and devaluing the most powerful country in the eyes of the world. Trump's antics and stupidities have already cost the country heavily. It is a matter of shame that a President of the most powerful United States of America began alleging much before the elections that the Opposition Dems would rig the elections! Usually it happens the other way round. Trump is so adamant now about his baseless accusations that the people have started doubting if the transfer of power will be peaceful, and not getting physical. There are already jokes making the rounds that Biden will have to seek the help of bouncers to take Trump out.

Trump has levelled charges of electoral malpractices against the Democratic Party. He has been foolishly claiming that the election was "stolen" and that he had convincing lead in the beginning of the counting which got slashed with the late-coming mail-in ballots. He had lost his initial legal battles in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Michigan. His party demanded recounting in Wisconsin although it is ruled by the Republicans currently.

Meanwhile, Georgia has ordered recounting and Biden's last-minute razor-thin majority is on hold. Georgia is also fully under the Republican thumb, now and traditionally.

Trump has also threatened to move the Supreme Court but that is legally tenable only in appeal after a State court gives its verdict. Meanwhile, even some Republican leaders too want Trump to concede. Among them are ex-President George W Bush and Senator Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney had voted to convict Trump in the impeachment case. At home, Trump's sons - elder Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump - have backed him while his wife Melania and son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner reportedly told him to give up. The President's only child with Melania, his third and current wife, is the fifth from the Trump brood, a boy, Barron, at 14.
