No community transmission of coronavirus in India

Another patient dies in Mumbai, taking the toll to three. The earlier deaths were in Karnataka and Delhi. Two had travelled abroad while one was mother of a patient who had travelled to a virus-hit country. Meanwhile, ICMR tests show no community transmission so far. It is setting up more labs while the private labs are also being allowed to conduct tests for coronavirus.

NEW DELHI, Mar 17: Even as a third patient died of covid-19 today in the country, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that the random samples collected have all tested negative, indicating that there is so far no community transmission in the country. More samples will be tested.

The ICMR, which has currently 72 labs, said the testing facility is being expanded by establishing 49 more labs across the country. As the Government has now allowed private labs to do testing, another 51 facilities will also come up soon, the ICMR said. However, no walk-in tests will be allowed, it was reported. There will be guidelines who all can get tested.

The death, reported from Mumbai, was of a 64-year old man who had visited Dubai recently and was tested positive for coronavirus (covid). Earlier two other elderly people had died of covid, one in Karnataka and the other in Delhi. All of them had co-morbid conditions.

The doctor who had treated the Karnataka case has tested positive for covid.

Today 23 people tested positive for coronavirus (covid-19) in the country, taking the total to 137. Maharashtra reported the maximum number of cases at 41.

The Railways has cancelled 76 trains as a precautionary measure against transmission of coronavirus.

India today banned flights from more countries like Afghanistan, Malaysia and the Philippines. Entry from Europe was banned yesterday.

More flights will be run to evacuate Indian students and pilgrims left behind in the previous evacuation, it is learnt. However, the 250 who have tested positive for coronavirus (covid) in Ian will be treated in Qom and Tehran, it was stated. Those tested negative will be brought back, in the coming days.

Wuhan, the Chinese city, centre of the outbreak, today reported just one case. As the figures had been coming down over the past couple of weeks, health officials said the country is totally out of the calamity. However, they said there were 20 cases reported from elsewhere in China but they were of people coming from outside China.
